Lost and Found: Cars Found in Lake
A mysterious case has come to surface in Oklahoma. Two cars found at the bottom of Foss Lake may have the clues to two missing person reports from thirty to forty years ago. The case was stumbled upon by absolute accident as the county police department were using sonar equipment to find another and more recent suspicion. When the police department pulled the first car out of the water they knew they had a rarity. The car was believed to belong to a teenager that went missing with his two friends sometime in the 70’s. The second car was said to be a 1950’s model Chevrolet. The car was believed to be owned by a man in the 1960’s. Both cars are heavily rusted and covered in thick mud. Within the cars, a total of six bodies have been believed to have been found. The local county Sheriff says “will possibly try to match DNA of those remains with known surviving family members,” in the hopes of determining who they were. However the DNA made be degraded and would serve little to no benefit for the science team doing the analysis. "Scientific identification of these remains will be attempted using anthropological and if necessary, forensic pathological methods," Chief Administrative Officer Amy Elliott said in a written statement. "Depending on the features of these remains and their state of preservation, identification can take anywhere from days to years. In some cases, if the DNA is degraded, positive identification using scientific means may not be possible.
One of the CNN newscasters stated that she believe the second car and person were that of her grandfather. This is still however undetermined. This find has impacted this county greatly, but not only the county, but also the state. Oklahoma now has I way to remove the missing person report and move forward.
As for the first car, it is said to have belong to 16 year old Jimmy Williams, a Sayre, Oklahoma, teenage who disappear with to friends. The disappearances have been a long part of local lore. "Everybody's just talking about it, you know, can't believe after so many years we're finding those vehicles in a lake," she told the station. Peoples told KOCO that he hoped the discoveries could help put families at ease about what happened to their loved ones so many years ago. "It has real importance to the families to determine, so they can have closure and know what happened to their families and have remains and to go on with life now," he said.
The historical significance is the bodies date back to the 60s and 70s. While no further evidence would suggest that either of the bodies played a serious role in anything, my personal belief is that they are all historicaly important because their resurface shows us how we never really paid attention then and how far we’ve come with technology.
The newscasters say that determining the truth of this case will take a good while. While it may be a while, the truth is come to light and the case can finally be rested.
